The Snider Prize is a prestigious purchase award designed to support emerging artists who are completing their final year of graduate study. This award plays a vital role in helping new talent gain recognition in the world of contemporary photography. Each year, one exceptional recipient is awarded $3,000, which is allocated towards the acquisition of their artwork for inclusion in the Museum of Contemporary Photography's (MoCP) permanent collection. In addition to the primary winner, two artists are selected for honorable mention, with each receiving $500 to contribute toward the purchase of their work. This ensures that a broader range of emerging voices is represented within the museum's collection, enriching its scope and diversity.
The Snider Prize was made possible thanks to the generous contributions of Lawrence K. and Maxine Snider. Their commitment to supporting artistic talent and preserving the evolution of contemporary photography has provided an invaluable opportunity for graduate students to showcase their creative vision. By investing in the work of these emerging artists, the Snider Prize serves as a cornerstone of the museum's dedication to nurturing and elevating fresh talent within the photographic arts community.
