Are you ready to immerse yourself in the fast-paced world of journalism alongside some of the most accomplished reporters and editors in the country? The Los Angeles Times offers a 10-week intensive internship program designed to give aspiring journalists hands-on experience in one of the most dynamic news environments in the world. With Los Angeles as your backdrop—a city where major stories unfold daily—you’ll learn how to cover breaking news, craft compelling narratives, and connect with audiences across multiple platforms.
Interns are placed throughout the newsroom, gaining experience in a wide range of departments. You might find yourself covering local government or neighborhood stories with Metro/Local, diving into film and music with Entertainment and Arts, chasing breaking stories with Fast Break, or contributing to Politics, Sports, or Business coverage. Other opportunities include working on Features and Lifestyle beats—such as fashion, food, travel, home design, and plants—or contributing to Foreign/National, Editorial Pages/Op-Ed, De Los, or Image, our fashion magazine. Visual storytellers have opportunities, too, in Photography, Video, Data and Graphics, Design, and Audience Engagement. One of our positions in Multiplatform Editing is filled through the Dow Jones News Fund national competition, with applications due November 14.
This is a paid internship program. Summer 2026 interns will begin on either May 26 or June 22, depending on placement. We also offer spring internships for students currently enrolled in Southern California colleges and universities. Please note that we do not offer a fall internship program.
