CURATORIAL RESEARCH GRANT

CALL FOR APPLICATIONS SEPTEMBER 23 — DECEMBER 15, 2022

THE RESEARCH AND PRODUCTION GRANT RECEIVES THE SUPPORT OF JEAN-FRANÇOIS DUBOS The Rencontres d'Arles curatorial research grant of 20,000 euros is open to all exhibition curators. The selected project will take place in two phases: → research time around an exhibition project. → production of the project (after validation). The grant of a maximum of 20,000 euros consists of: → an initial amount acquired for the winner of 5,000 euros in copyright. → a second amount of 15,000 euros subject to validation of the production of the project. PARTICIPATION RULES 1 — PURPOSE The Rencontres d'Arles curatorial research grant is intended for exhibition curators wishing to carry out an original project related to image/photography. The research and production grant is supported by Jean-François Dubos. 2 — FILE THE APPLICATION FILE MUST BE COMPLETED ONLINE BY CLICKING HERE UNTIL DECEMBER 15, 2022 → MEETINGSARLES.TYPEFORM.COM it must include the following elements: → biography of the curator (and the co-curators or the collective if applicable) with training, complete contact details and list of projects & exhibitions of the curator(s), including presentations and views (in the case of exhibitions) of the various projects carried out by the curator(s) . → a presentation text of the exhibition project proposed for the research grant (maximum 5000 characters), corpus of works and artists envisaged for the project (it is strongly recommended to present visuals), estimated budget of research (5,000 euros), research schedule and provisional production budget for the exhibition (15,000 euros) in the allocated envelopes. The texts must be in French or in English, ideally both. 3 — RESEARCH & PRODUCTION PHASE 1 — RESEARCH → Once the project has been selected, the curator will receive a grant of 5,000 euros for expenses and copyrights for the duration of the research. → The budget and schedule will be submitted to the management of the Rencontres d'Arles for validation. → The curator will have six months of research time after which he/she will have to submit a note to the artistic direction of the Rencontres d'Arles to validate the feasibility of the project and its restitution format (phase 2). PHASE 2 — PRODUCTION & IMPLEMENTATION OF THE PROJECT After agreement, the project will move into the implementation and production phase and will be supported by the Rencontres d'Arles. → The budget of 15,000 euros managed by the Rencontres d'Arles includes: - loans of the works - transport of the works to Arles (round trip) - production of the works: prints/framing, wallpapers, videos, etc. - invitation of the curator and possibly support for the artists in Arles during the opening week (and/or the setting up of the exhibition). - insurance - etc → The curator undertakes to: - select the works making up the corpus of the exhibition and determine the rights of presentation and reproduction. - design and write a text presenting the selection of photographs. - be present during the opening week of the festival and participate in the guided tour of the exhibition. In addition to this budget, the Rencontres d'Arles will pay for: scenography, setting up and taking down the works, security. 4 – CALENDAR → September 23, 2022 opening of applications → December 15, 2022 deadline for sending applications → January 2023 announcement of the winning projects → Until summer 2023 phase 1 of research → From September 2023 after validation, phase 2 of production of the project
