If you’ve ever dreamed of working in a bustling newsroom where breaking stories are the norm and storytelling takes many forms, the Los Angeles Times internship program could be your gateway. Over the course of 10 immersive weeks, interns collaborate directly with some of the nation’s most respected journalists, gaining real-world experience in a city that consistently produces stories with national and global impact. This program isn’t just about observing—it’s about writing, reporting, editing, designing, and creating content that reaches millions of readers.
Placement opportunities extend across nearly every corner of the newsroom. You may cover government and community issues with Metro/Local, spotlight artists and trends with Entertainment and Arts, or chase deadlines with Fast Break, the breaking news desk. Interns are also welcomed into Politics, Sports, Business, and Foreign/National reporting, while lifestyle enthusiasts can contribute to Fashion, Food, Travel, Home Design, and Plants. Creative and visual storytellers may join Photography, Video, Design, Data and Graphics, Audience Engagement, or Image, our celebrated fashion magazine. There are also openings in Op-Ed, Editorial Pages, and De Los, which amplifies voices from diverse communities. One highly competitive spot in Multiplatform Editing is reserved for the Dow Jones News Fund program (application deadline: November 14).
Our internships are paid positions, offering invaluable experience and mentorship. The summer 2026 program begins on May 26 and June 22, depending on assignment. For students currently studying in Southern California, we also offer spring internships to build skills during the academic year. Please note: we do not run a fall internship program.
