Since its inception in 1990, the Jean-Luc Lagardère Foundation has been a proud supporter of emerging talents in the fields of media and culture through its dynamic Grants program. The Photographer Grant, a central pillar of this initiative, offers an incredible opportunity each year for a French-speaking photographer under the age of 35 to bring an original documentary project to life. With a generous 10,000-euro prize and the invaluable endorsement of a jury composed of top photography and media professionals, the grant provides not just funding but a powerful platform for new artistic voices.
More than just financial aid, this grant represents a transformative career milestone. It opens doors, amplifies voices, and propels young photographers into the spotlight. To qualify, applicants must practice photography as their main occupation and have a proven track record, with at least two documentary projects published in the press, books, or exhibition catalogs.
Over the years, the Foundation has helped propel the careers of exceptional talents such as Sarah Caron (2000), Samuel Bollendorff (2001), Agnès Dherbeys (2005), Véronique de Viguerie (2006), Stéphanie Lacombe (2006), William Daniels (2007), and Elena Chernyshova (2011). In 2016, Anna Filipova joined this esteemed list, earning the grant for her gripping photo essay on the impact of mining in Greenland.
By encouraging creativity and offering substantial support, the Jean-Luc Lagardère Foundation continues to inspire and elevate the next generation of documentary photographers, making an enduring contribution to the world of visual storytelling.
