Ideas are the quiet architects of our lives. They shape the way we see the world, the choices we make, and even how we understand ourselves. Every day, we carry with us a constellation of ideas—some ancient, some new, some gifted, and some deeply personal. There are ideas that empower us, reminding us of our strength and potential. And there are ideas that wound us, repeating old patterns, keeping us small, or convincing us that change is too risky.

Some ideas act like lanterns, illuminating the way forward. Others are like shadows that follow us, unnoticed but ever-present. Ideas can bring people together, or tear them apart. They can open minds or close them. They can build homes—or start wars. In this way, every idea holds both promise and peril.

This theme is for all of us. It’s about what we carry in our minds and hearts, often without knowing. It’s about how we inherit, resist, reshape, or pass along the stories and beliefs that define us. For artists, this theme becomes an invitation: to turn the mirror on your own work and ask—What ideas do I carry into the world? What do I disrupt, and what do I propose in return? How does my art echo the ideas I’ve lived, and the ones I dream of?

The IPMA Festival is now open for submissions. We welcome work from artists who work with photography, video, sound, installation, or interdisciplinary media. We’re looking for creations that speak to the duality of ideas—how they create and destroy, connect and divide, liberate and confine. Show us your vision of how ideas move through the world. Show us what they break, what they build, and how they transform.
