Charlotte Dumas, a Dutch photographer whose numerous works question our relationship with animals and nature, will serve as the competition's juror this month. The subject, "Animal," alludes to people, creatures, birds, bugs, fanciful presences and so on. Each has the capacity to care for and comprehend one another as well as oneself. Do we not also need to pay attention to other "CREATURES" in order to create such a diverse and rich society? We anticipate receiving a wide variety of submissions that freely interpret this theme; photographs of people who are important to you, a series that delves into the mysteries of "CREATURES," or even works that challenge our current society and its prospects.

[Submission Period] from February 24 to April 24 [Application Fee] 2,000 JPY per entry JUDGE Charlotte Dumas My work is centered on the idea that our relationship with animals can provide insight into the state of humanity. My topic is directly related to how we use, coexist with, and define particular animals, as well as our own personal reflections and symbolisms.

I'm interested in how we define value in relation to animals, similar to how we define value in relation to other people.

Since 2012, when I began my career as a photographer, I have grown and developed my short filmmaking business. From portraying the funeral horses of Arlington National Cemetery in Anima (2012) to working horses in the North of Sweden in Work Horse (2015), a filmic project between 2018 and 2021 centered on a small Japanese island and its native horses. Shio, Yorishiro, and Ao are the three short films.
