Handicrafts Photo invites photographers from around the world to explore, document, and celebrate the beauty, creativity, and cultural importance of traditional and contemporary craftsmanship through the photographic medium. The project offers an opportunity to look beyond the finished object and discover the people, knowledge, techniques, materials, and stories that give handmade creations their meaning.

From ceramics, textiles, embroidery, weaving, basketry, and woodwork to jewelry, sculpture, paper, glass, metalwork, and other forms of artisanal practice, photographers are encouraged to explore the extraordinary diversity of craftsmanship found across different cultures and communities. Submissions may focus on traditional techniques preserved through generations, contemporary interpretations of historic practices, or entirely new approaches to making by hand.

The project welcomes photographs that capture artisans at work, the gestures and movements involved in the creative process, workshops and studios, tools and raw materials, as well as the finished objects themselves. Photographers may also explore the environments and communities in which crafts are produced, revealing the social, cultural, and personal connections surrounding a particular tradition.

Whether approached through documentary photography, portraiture, still life, conceptual imagery, or intimate observational work, submissions should offer a meaningful perspective on the relationship between people and the things they create.

Handicrafts Photo seeks to build a visual celebration of human creativity and craftsmanship while drawing attention to the knowledge, patience, skill, and dedication required to create something by hand. It also highlights the importance of preserving artisanal traditions and the cultural heritage they represent, while recognizing the ways in which crafts continue to evolve in the contemporary world.

Photographers are invited to submit images that reveal unexpected details, tell compelling stories, and offer a distinctive visual interpretation of craftsmanship. Through photography, the project aims to showcase the diversity of handmade traditions and the enduring connection between creativity, culture, material, and human hands.
