The exhibition FROZEN seeks to explore the aesthetic and emotional resonance of winter through the medium of photography. We invite submissions that capture the distilled essence of this season, whether in its stark simplicity or its intricate detail. Photographers are encouraged to consider how winter reveals itself: in the geometry of snow-covered landscapes, the delicate patterns of frost, the quiet expanse of frozen rivers, or the fleeting transformation of breath into mist. Winter provides a unique visual language—one of clarity, stillness, and subtle transformation—that we wish to celebrate through this exhibition.
Submissions may take many forms. Minimalist compositions are welcomed alongside richly textured studies. The scope of approaches is deliberately broad, encompassing black-and-white and color, traditional practices, experimental processes, and contemporary innovations. Above all, we are interested in work that reflects the transformative power of winter—its capacity to reframe the everyday and invite us into moments of contemplation.
We are pleased to announce that Paula Tognarelli will serve as juror for FROZEN. She will curate a selection of up to 35 photographs for installation in our Middlebury, Vermont Exhibition Gallery, in addition to 40 works to be presented in our Online Gallery. The complete selection of 75 images will be reproduced in an exhibition catalog, remain permanently accessible on our website, and be featured through coordinated social media campaigns with direct links to participating photographers’ portfolios.
