What does it mean to be brave in an age of uncertainty and change? FOTOGRAFICA, Bergamo’s celebrated photography festival, invites young creators under 30 to reflect on this question through FOTOGRAFICA NEXT—a new Open Call that welcomes submissions in both Photography and AI-generated Photography.

With the theme “As Brave As We Can,” this year’s call invites participants to explore the many layers of courage. Not the kind shouted from rooftops, but the quieter, often invisible kind: the courage to show up, to make a mistake, to say no, to say yes. To change course, to begin again, to share your story, to resist conformity. Bravery isn't a destination—it’s a process of discovery, driven by hope, discomfort, questions, and conviction.

In a world shaped by rapid digital transformations, shifting social landscapes, and countless uncertainties, FOTOGRAFICA NEXT seeks to highlight the new voices who are asking bold questions and seeing the world through eyes unburdened by convention. Whether their tools are traditional cameras or AI-powered algorithms, these young artists are encouraged to translate emotion, inquiry, and identity into powerful visual narratives.

Organized in collaboration with Fondazione Alfaparf, a nonprofit entity under the Alfaparf Milano Group, this initiative affirms the belief that photography can serve as both a mirror and a map—a means to navigate one’s inner life and the shared spaces around us. The foundation’s ongoing support for creative growth ensures that participants will not only gain visibility but also access to tools for long-term professional development and artistic exchange.
