The World Report Award | Documenting Humanity is dedicated to fostering a renewed and meaningful form of social engagement through photography. Open to both professional and amateur photographers from around the world, the award celebrates visual storytelling that places human beings and their social, cultural, and emotional realities at its core. The projects submitted may explore public or private narratives, capture fleeting or transformative moments, document major human tragedies, or reflect the quiet poetry of everyday life, as well as intimate and deeply personal human connections. Particular attention is also given to projects addressing environmental challenges, wildlife conservation, and solution-oriented photojournalism that seeks not only to inform, but to inspire change.
Each year, the award presents a rich and compelling panorama of contemporary photojournalism and documentary photography, highlighting works of outstanding quality, depth, and ethical awareness. The World Report Award | Documenting Humanity is not merely a competition that offers financial support through its prizes to photographers working in demanding and often challenging contexts. It is also a gateway to a strong, collaborative international community that has been carefully built over more than fifteen years and is composed of professionals actively involved with the organization and its values.
The award is organized by the Festival of Ethical Photography, founded in 2010 with the aim of emphasizing ethically significant content and bringing complex social issues closer to the general public. Firmly rooted in the belief that photography has long been a powerful instrument for revealing social injustice across the world, the Festival explores the evolving relationship between ethics, communication, and visual storytelling through an innovative and multidisciplinary approach.
Each edition of the Festival presents more than twenty exhibitions by internationally acclaimed and award-winning photographers, alongside a rich program of talks, workshops, portfolio reviews, screenings, book presentations, photography labs, and educational activities for students. Beyond the annual event held every fall, the Festival’s organization works continuously throughout the year to ensure that photographers’ work reaches wider audiences and that their voices remain visible, heard, and engaged in the global conversation.
