Since the year 2020, the Ministry of Culture, in collaboration with Visa pour l’Image, has been proud to present two annual production grants, each valued at 8,000 euros, specifically dedicated to supporting the work of women in the field of photojournalism. These prestigious grants are awarded to female photographers whose outstanding talent and dedication have made a significant impact on the world of documentary photography and visual storytelling.

This initiative not only seeks to provide essential financial support for new projects, but also serves as a meaningful tribute to the late Françoise Demulder—an iconic figure in the history of photojournalism. Demulder, a pioneering French war photographer, broke barriers in 1977 when she became the first woman to win the esteemed World Press Photo of the Year award. Through this grant, her legacy continues to inspire and uplift a new generation of fearless and visionary female photojournalists.
