The EURORDIS Photo Award invites you to tell your story through the power of imagery—to show the world what daily life with a rare disease truly looks and feels like. Through your photograph, you can give shape to experiences that are often unseen, offering insight, hope, solidarity, and understanding to both the rare disease community and the wider public.
This global competition welcomes participants from every country and from all rare disease groups, without exception. Over the course of many years, thousands of extraordinary photographs have been shared, each capturing the resilience, vulnerability, creativity, and humanity of people affected by rare diseases. These images have become a remarkable testament to global unity and awareness.
Because these stories often involve family members, loved ones, or caregivers, it is essential that the privacy and rights of everyone featured are protected. If you are submitting a photo, you must be at least 18 years old. You are also required to obtain consent from every individual aged 14 or older who appears in the image, as well as from the parents or legal guardians of any minors under 18. Additionally, both the photographer and the person who holds the Intellectual Property Rights must grant authorisation before the photo can be submitted. This ensures that EURORDIS may publish, share, and promote your image in an ethical and lawful manner.
At the end of the submission form, you will confirm—through a virtual signature—that you have carefully reviewed and understood our Terms, Conditions, and Intellectual Property Rights and our Personal Data Consent Document, and that all necessary permissions have been obtained.
Internationally acclaimed photographer Marcus Bleasdale will review the submissions and select five finalists whose images stand out for their power, beauty, and storytelling strength.
On 9 February 2026, the public voting period will open, allowing people from around the world to support the stories that move them most. The winners will then be revealed on 24 February 2026 at the prestigious EURORDIS Black Pearl Awards. The three entrants with the highest number of votes will each receive a prize. Further details about deadlines and prize categories are available in our Procedures Document.
