The theme Abandoned opens a space for considering the relationship between presence and absence, and how the two coexist within the visual world. It invites photographers to explore what it means for something to be left behind—whether physically, socially, or emotionally—and how those conditions manifest in images.
Abandonment can be found in derelict architecture, empty urban or rural environments, and landscapes shaped by time and neglect. At the same time, it can be expressed through smaller, more intimate details: objects that outlive their owners, fragments of personal history, or subtle visual cues that suggest absence without explicitly showing it.
We encourage submissions that engage with the aesthetics and implications of decay, stillness, and temporal displacement. What kinds of stories emerge in spaces that have been overlooked or forgotten? How does time transform both place and meaning? Where can we find tension, beauty, or ambiguity within these conditions?
This theme is open to broad interpretation, and we welcome all photographic approaches. Whether you work within documentary traditions, staged or conceptual practices, or experimental forms, we are interested in how you translate the idea of abandonment into a compelling visual narrative.
