Abandoned is a theme that invites you to slow down and look closely at what remains when something is left behind. It asks photographers to engage with absence as much as presence—to notice the marks, structures, and emotions that persist even after people or purpose have disappeared.
This could take the form of deserted buildings, neglected spaces, or landscapes reclaimed by nature. It might also emerge through more intimate subjects: personal objects, forgotten belongings, or subtle emotional traces that suggest stories of departure, loss, or change. Abandonment is not only about emptiness—it is about what endures in that emptiness.
We are drawn to images that find beauty in deterioration, that capture the stillness of paused time, or that reveal the quiet tension within forgotten places. These photographs can be meditative, haunting, or quietly powerful, offering viewers a chance to reflect on impermanence and memory.
There are no restrictions on style or method. Whether your work is grounded in documentary observation, constructed narratives, or conceptual experimentation, we welcome diverse interpretations that engage thoughtfully with the theme.
