Doctors of the World Spain invites photographers from around the globe to participate in the 29th edition of the Luis Valtueña International Award, a competition that seeks to recognize powerful, thought-provoking images that tell the stories behind human suffering, social injustice, and the enduring fight for human rights. Through the lens of humanitarian and documentary photography, this award seeks to bring attention to the often unseen and unheard realities that shape our world.

This meaningful award was named in remembrance of Luis Valtueña, a dedicated photographer and humanitarian aid worker whose life, along with the lives of three colleagues from the same organization, was tragically lost while delivering aid in conflict zones—two in Rwanda in 1997 and one in Bosnia in 1995. Their deaths serve as a sobering reminder of the risks many take in the name of humanitarian work. This award stands as a testament to their legacy, celebrating the spirit of compassion and bravery that they embodied and that continues to inspire those who fight for justice and human dignity through photography.
