Decode Gallery - Square Photography Contest and Exhibition

Decode Gallery is pleased to announce an open call for a new juried photography exhibition focused exclusively on the square format. We invite submissions of photographic work from all genres—whether your expertise lies in portraiture, landscape, documentary, architecture, abstract, or conceptual photography. This exhibition is a celebration of the creativity and compositional innovation that emerges from working within the constraints of a square frame.

The square format challenges photographers to rethink composition, balance, and subject placement, offering a unique visual impact. We are seeking images that not only fit this format but also take full advantage of its symmetry, simplicity, and potential for powerful storytelling.

A total of 12 images will be selected by our juror to be included in the exhibition at Decode Gallery. For the convenience of participating artists, the gallery will handle all printing at no cost to the photographers. Prints will be produced professionally on an Epson printer using Ilford Pearl paper, known for its rich tonal quality and archival durability. Only one print per selected image will be made, and following the exhibition, the print will be stored safely in our flat files for up to six months.

Our exhibitions are mounted in museum-quality 14"x14" frames, with custom-cut mats sized at 7"x7" to complement the square image presentation. This standard ensures a clean and professional viewing experience for gallery visitors and potential collectors.

Photographers have the option to list their exhibition prints for sale. If a sale inquiry is made, the photographer will be contacted directly. Decode Gallery retains a 50% commission on any sales, with the remaining 50% going to the artist. All rights to the image and print remain solely with the photographer.

Notifications of acceptance will be sent via email within two weeks of the submission deadline. We look forward to discovering the diverse and compelling ways photographers are using the square format in their practice.
