Portraiture has long been associated with the act of recording outward appearance—capturing likeness, form, and surface. This exhibition seeks to move beyond that tradition by asking a more complex and introspective question: what exists beneath what we see?
We are inviting photographic works that gesture toward an inner life rather than simply presenting an external identity. We are interested in images that evoke psychological depth—works that carry tension, ambiguity, vulnerability, or even contradiction. These are photographs that do not resolve themselves immediately, but instead linger, suggesting presence without fully explaining it. The aim is not clarity, but resonance.
Submissions that depend heavily on overt stylization, sentimental cues, or overly literal interpretations of the theme may not align with the direction of this exhibition. We encourage restraint, nuance, and openness—qualities that allow meaning to emerge rather than be declared.
This exhibition is deliberately selective. Only approximately 10–12% of submitted works will be chosen, reflecting a focused and carefully considered curatorial approach. For transparency, the total number of submissions and the final acceptance rate will be shared at the time of selection.
Each selected artist will be represented by a single image, emphasizing the strength and singularity of each chosen work.
