Life is rarely untouched by hardship. We experience moments of loss, heartbreak, uncertainty, and transformation. Relationships end, health falters, homes are left behind, and familiar worlds can suddenly change. Yet despite these challenges, the human spirit often finds a way to endure.
Overcoming — What Remains Standing is a photography call dedicated to stories of resilience, courage, and survival. We invite photographers to share images that capture the strength people find when faced with difficult circumstances and the traces that remain long after the struggle has passed.
We are interested in photographs that reveal both visible and invisible forms of perseverance. This could mean documenting a person's recovery after illness, a family's journey through grief, a community rebuilding after loss, or the emotional landscapes left behind by displacement and change. It could also mean finding resilience in unexpected places—a weathered building that still stands, an object carrying memories through generations, or a quiet moment that speaks of hope despite adversity.
There are no limitations on how you interpret the theme. Your work may be documentary or fictional, realistic or symbolic, highly stylized or deeply personal. It can be powerful and confrontational or subtle and reflective. We encourage photographers to approach the subject from their own unique perspective and create images that resonate with honesty and emotional depth.
Above all, we are looking for work that reminds us of humanity's remarkable capacity to endure. All photographers are welcome to submit, regardless of experience level, background, or photographic process. Show us what survives. Show us what remains. Show us what is still standing.
