At first glance, abandoned buildings may seem like little more than ruins—structures forgotten and left behind. But to the eye of the photographer, they become something more: places where the past lingers in silence, where textures, shadows, and remnants of life tell stories without words. Every cracked wall, every broken window, every empty room becomes a canvas for memory, imagination, and discovery. These spaces remind us of time’s passage, of beauty found in imperfection, and of the quiet poetry of decay.
Decagon Gallery is excited to announce a juried photography exhibition that celebrates this haunting and magnetic subject matter. We invite photographers from all backgrounds to submit work that engages with the theme of abandonment in its many forms. This could be a farmhouse slowly succumbing to the wilderness, a once-grand theater now echoing with emptiness, or a city building that stands as a monument to forgotten histories. Both documentary and artistic interpretations are welcome—whether you approach with a spirit of exploration, a commitment to capturing architectural detail, or a desire to transform these spaces into surreal visions. This exhibition is an opportunity to share your unique way of seeing beauty in the overlooked and forgotten, and to join a collective exploration of the rich visual and emotional resonance of abandoned spaces.
