Abandoned buildings are more than empty shells or forgotten ruins—they are powerful monuments to memory, history, and the relentless passage of time. Within their peeling paint, fractured walls, and shadowed interiors lie the whispers of untold stories: lives once lived, voices once heard, communities once thriving. These places, now quiet and still, resonate with a haunting beauty that draws us toward them. They invite us to reflect on cycles of growth and decay, on what is lost and what is carried forward.
In this juried exhibition, Decagon Gallery opens its doors to photographers who are captivated by the strange allure of abandonment. We are looking for images that reveal the poetry embedded in neglected and forgotten spaces—whether it is a rural house crumbling into the earth, a grand structure reclaimed by vines and trees, or an interior whose emptiness is filled with echoes of the past. Documentary, experimental, and interpretive approaches are all welcome. From stark realism to surreal transformation, this exhibition seeks to highlight the many ways photographers find beauty in decay and meaning in the silence of abandoned architecture.
