The annual photography prize brings together ecologists and wildlife photographers from around the world to celebrate the remarkable beauty, diversity, and complexity of the natural world. Each edition showcases compelling visual stories that reveal surprising ecological discoveries, fascinating wildlife behavior, and the intricate relationships that exist within Earth's ecosystems. Through powerful imagery, the competition encourages a deeper understanding of nature and highlights the importance of protecting the environments that support all forms of life.
A distinguished jury of acclaimed wildlife photographers, experienced ecologists, and leading experts carefully reviews each submission, selecting photographs that combine exceptional visual impact with meaningful ecological storytelling. The competition recognizes work that not only captures breathtaking moments in nature but also communicates the scientific, environmental, and conservation stories behind them.
The prize is open to everyone, regardless of photographic experience. Members of the British Ecological Society (BES) can enter free of charge, while entry fees are also waived for photographers who are citizens of, or residents in, countries across the Global South. The competition is equally committed to encouraging the next generation of nature photographers, welcoming entries from participants under the age of 18 and providing young creatives with an opportunity to share their unique perspective on the natural world.
