Black Box Gallery invites photographers to explore the dynamic relationship between shadow and light in a juried group exhibition. Photography’s unique ability to document the interaction of darkness and light brings dimension and definition to images, with shadows enriching the interplay of subjects. This exhibition celebrates the innovative ways photographers use shadow to dramatize black-and-white images or evoke ethereal moods and textures in color photography. We welcome diverse interpretations from contemporary photographers.
Juror: Todd Johnson
Todd Johnson is the founder and director of Black Box Gallery, holding an MFA in Photography from the San Francisco Art Institute. With a career spanning 25 years, he has served as a portfolio reviewer for renowned institutions such as Photolucida, Critical Mass, Dodho Magazine, and Blue Sky Gallery. Todd has curated numerous exhibitions across Portland, OR, and nationally, including shows at Linfield College and The Waiting Room Gallery.
Todd’s photographic work has been widely exhibited, from Portland venues like Pacific Northwest College of Art and FalseFront Gallery to national spaces such as Bushwick Open Studios and The Diego Rivera Gallery.
