Black Box Gallery is delighted to present a new juried group exhibition dedicated to the visual poetry of shadow and light. At the heart of photography lies a constant negotiation between darkness and illumination, and this show celebrates the many ways artists harness that interplay. Shadows help define the structure and relationships of elements within a composition—carving out dimension, emphasizing form, and enriching the tonal range of the image. Throughout the history of the medium, photographers have embraced bold, sculptural shadows in black-and-white work while also experimenting with softer, atmospheric, and emotionally charged shadow textures in color photography. For this exhibition, we are seeking a diverse selection of images that reveal how contemporary photographers interpret, manipulate, and respond to the transformative dance between shadow and light.
