Black Box Gallery is pleased to announce a juried group photo exhibition exploring the nuanced and captivating relationship between shadow and light. Every photograph emerges from the tension between these two forces, and the patterns they create tell stories within the frame. Shadows can subtly guide the viewer’s eye or dramatically reshape a scene; they enrich forms, suggest mystery, and bring out the full expressive power of highlights and luminosity. Photographers across genres have long embraced strong graphic shadows in classic black-and-white imagery, but many have also ventured into color work that uses delicate, moody, or dreamlike shadow textures. With this exhibition, we invite submissions that highlight the broad spectrum of approaches contemporary artists use to visualize the interplay of shadow and light—from bold contrast to atmospheric subtlety.
