Black Box Gallery invites photographers from around the world to submit to our next juried group exhibition, focusing on the poetic and powerful theme of Shadow and Light. At the heart of every photograph lies a dance between the seen and unseen, the illuminated and the obscured. Light reveals, but shadow defines—it shapes the story behind the image.

Shadows are not just the absence of light; they are a presence of their own. They carve out space, create tension, and stir emotion. In black and white photography, shadow becomes a bold compositional element, painting striking contrasts across surfaces. In color imagery, shadows become mysterious, tender, or haunting—imbuing scenes with layers of meaning and depth.

This call is open to a wide range of visual styles, from bold, high-contrast street photography to soft, atmospheric portraits and abstract compositions. We are especially interested in how contemporary photographers interpret shadow and light—whether through traditional darkroom techniques, digital processes, or conceptual experimentation. This is your opportunity to explore how illumination—and its absence—can become a language for expressing memory, identity, time, and transformation.
