Black Box Gallery announces an open call for a juried group exhibition focused on the endless creative possibilities of contemporary color photography. Color has become one of the most influential visual languages in photography, capable of conveying emotion, building atmosphere, emphasizing narrative, and transforming familiar subjects into striking works of art. This exhibition celebrates photographers who use color with intention, creativity, and originality.

Artists working in every photographic discipline are encouraged to submit their work, including landscape, portrait, architecture, fashion, street, documentary, still life, conceptual, abstract, narrative, nature, and nocturnal photography. The gallery is interested in images that explore the role of color in composition, storytelling, symbolism, mood, and visual impact. Whether vibrant and energetic or subtle and understated, every interpretation of color is welcome.

The selected exhibition will showcase a broad range of photographic perspectives, highlighting how contemporary artists continue to push the boundaries of color photography. Through diverse styles, techniques, and subject matter, the exhibition aims to demonstrate the versatility and expressive power of color as a central element of photographic practice.

Juror: Todd Johnson

Entries will be reviewed by Todd Johnson, founder and director of Black Box Gallery. Johnson received his MFA in Photography from the San Francisco Art Institute and has dedicated over 25 years to supporting photographers through exhibition curation, arts education, and gallery leadership.

He has served as a portfolio reviewer for internationally recognized organizations including Photolucida, Critical Mass, Dodho Magazine, and Blue Sky Gallery. His curatorial work has brought together exhibitions at a variety of academic institutions and independent galleries, while his own photography has been exhibited extensively throughout Oregon and across the United States.

Combining the perspectives of an exhibiting artist, experienced curator, educator, and gallery director, Johnson brings a deep understanding of contemporary photographic practice and a thoughtful approach to selecting work for exhibition.
