Black Box Gallery - Camera Work: Black and White Open Call

Black Box Gallery is thrilled to announce a new Black and White Juried Group Photography Exhibition, celebrating the artistry, drama, and timeless appeal of monochrome photography.

Black and white has long been a cornerstone of the photographic medium — a way of seeing that distills the world into pure form, contrast, and emotion. It’s nostalgic, classic, and yet endlessly modern. Today’s photographers continue this ongoing dialogue with the past, reinterpreting tradition through contemporary perspectives and innovative aesthetics.

This exciting exhibition welcomes all styles of black and white photography — from fine art and street to portrait, documentary, and experimental work. Black Box Gallery seeks submissions that reflect diversity, creativity, and mastery of tone and composition.

Juror: Todd JohnsonThe exhibition will be juried by Todd Johnson, founder and director of Black Box Gallery. Johnson holds an MFA in Photography from the San Francisco Art Institute and has over 25 years of experience as an educator, curator, and arts administrator. He has reviewed portfolios for Photolucida, Critical Mass, and Dodho Magazine, and curated exhibitions across the U.S., including at Linfield College, Gallery Homeland, and The Gorilla Art Gallery.

As a photographer, Johnson’s work has appeared in galleries nationwide, including Augen Gallery (Portland, OR), White Box Gallery (University of Oregon), Bushwick Open Studios (Brooklyn, NY), and The Diego Rivera Gallery (San Francisco, CA).

Join us as we explore the visual power of black and white — where every gradient of gray tells a story, and where classic craftsmanship meets the fresh vision of today’s artists.
