Black and white photography is timeless—a dialogue between shadow and light, silence and expression. The Bergger Analog Photography Prize was created to honor this tradition while encouraging new generations to explore analog photography as a form of artistic language. It is not simply a competition but a springboard for fresh perspectives in the ever-evolving story of black and white imagery.
The Grand Prize Winner will be awarded a residency at the Pavillon des Lettres, a literary hotel nestled in the heart of Paris. Here, over the course of a year, their work will converse with the cultural richness of the city, opening officially on Thursday, October 30th, 6pm.
The winner’s series of 25 images will be printed in the darkroom by Fred Goyeau, legendary master printer to artists such as Sebastião Salgado and Sophie Calle. In addition, the winner will take part in a three-day workshop at Fred’s Lab, where the craft of analog printing is treated as an art in itself.
Practical support includes travel and accommodation assistance, promotion across Bergger and partner networks, and exposure through a jury of renowned figures in photography and the arts. Shortlisted artists will also be recognized and receive a Bergger voucher.
The prize is sustained by Bergger, the last French manufacturer of photographic films, papers, and chemistry, whose dedication ensures that black and white analog photography continues to thrive as both craft and art.
