If you're an artist who works in a realistic or representational style and primarily creates images using photography—whether you shoot on film, use a digital camera, or work with any other photographic medium—you can enter your work into the Photography Award. We welcome artists working in all forms of photography, as long as the final image maintains the essence of a photographic piece.

We know that in today’s digital world, the line between photography and digital art is sometimes unclear. If you make only minor digital edits—like tweaking the colors, adjusting lighting, cropping, or making small touch-ups—your work still falls under photography and qualifies for this award. But if you go beyond basic edits and make big digital changes, such as replacing backgrounds, adding new elements that weren’t originally in the shot, or heavily painting over your image using digital tools, then your work would be a better fit for the Digital Art Award instead.

We want to make sure that everyone’s work is judged fairly in the right category, so if you’re unsure where your piece belongs, consider whether the final result is still mostly a photograph or if it has become more of a digital illustration. If it’s the latter, the Digital Art Award is the right place for it.
