If you create work in a representational photographic style, you are eligible to enter the MPB Photography Award. We welcome submissions from across all photographic mediums, including both analogue and digital practices, as well as hybrid approaches that combine the two. What matters most is that the final image is rooted in photography as its primary medium.
We understand that contemporary image-making often exists in a space where photography and digital art intersect. Because of this, it can sometimes be difficult to determine which category is the best fit for your work. As a general guideline, consider how much the original photograph has been transformed during your process.
If your final piece includes major digital alterations—such as adding entirely new backgrounds, inserting or constructing additional elements, heavily painting over the image, or otherwise significantly changing the original photograph—then it should be entered into the Digital Art Award category instead.
On the other hand, if your workflow involves light to moderate post-processing—such as adjusting tones, refining color, cropping, or making subtle retouching edits—your work is still considered photographic and can be submitted to the Photography Award.
