The art of black and white photography lies in its remarkable ability to convey emotion, atmosphere, and narrative without relying on color. By focusing solely on shades of light and dark, photographers can highlight contrast, emphasize composition, and reveal intricate textures and forms that might otherwise go unnoticed. This approach often produces images that feel timeless and evocative, resonating with viewers on a deeper emotional level. Despite the evolution of photographic technology, monochrome photography remains a powerful and influential medium embraced by artists worldwide.
This competition is dedicated to celebrating the creative possibilities of black and white photography in all its forms. Participants are invited to submit work from a broad range of genres, including photojournalism, street photography, documentary projects, portraiture, nude photography, landscape imagery, wildlife photography, urban exploration, architectural photography, fashion work, and fine art. The contest encourages innovation while honoring the classic principles of monochrome imagery.
Entries must consist of a series of at least three photographs that together form a cohesive and unified body of work. The images should be connected by a consistent theme, subject matter, visual style, or conceptual idea, demonstrating a clear artistic direction. Submissions are expected to function as complete series rather than individual pieces. Please note that any photographs previously published in AAP Magazine cannot be submitted.
The competition offers $1,000 in total cash prizes to its winners. In addition, selected photographers will have their work published in AAP Magazine Vol. 58, gaining significant international exposure. Winners will also receive press coverage and recognition within the global photography community, providing valuable opportunities for visibility and professional growth.
