Black and white photography continues to captivate audiences with its ability to distill imagery down to its most fundamental elements. Without the presence of color, the viewer becomes more attuned to nuances such as contrast, tonal range, light dynamics, and structural composition. This stripped-back approach often results in images that feel timeless, poetic, and emotionally resonant. Over the years, monochrome photography has remained a vital artistic medium, inspiring countless photographers to push creative boundaries while honoring a classic visual tradition.
This open call celebrates the many forms and interpretations of black and white photography. Artists working across all genres are encouraged to participate, including those focusing on documentary narratives, street scenes, portraiture, nude studies, natural landscapes, wildlife, urban exploration, architectural design, fashion imagery, and fine art concepts. The contest aims to highlight the diversity and richness of monochrome photography across different perspectives and styles.
To enter, photographers must submit a cohesive portfolio composed of at least three images. These photographs should form a unified series, connected through a shared theme, subject, aesthetic, or conceptual framework. The emphasis is on presenting a complete project rather than isolated works, demonstrating both consistency and creative vision. Submissions that have previously appeared in AAP Magazine are not eligible for consideration.
Award recipients will receive cash prizes totaling $1,000, along with the opportunity to be published in AAP Magazine Vol. 58. In addition to publication, winners will benefit from international media exposure and increased visibility within the global photography community, providing a meaningful platform for recognition and career advancement.
