Doug Chinnery will take on the role of juror for the upcoming exhibition themed "Expressionism."

A trailblazer in the intersection of photography and abstract art, Doug Chinnery has long ceased to see himself as merely a photographer. “I long ago stopped thinking of myself as a photographer and more as an abstract artist, using the camera as my principal medium,” he says. His work delves into the captivating “edgelands” between photography and mixed media abstract expressionism, drawing inspiration from renowned painters such as Hodgkin, Feiler, Rae, and Ryman. Through his art, Chinnery aims to craft “visual poetry” that conveys emotional depth, often prioritizing personal resonance over exact replication of his subjects. However, the journey is not without difficulty. “In this, I fail more often than I succeed,” he candidly admits.

In addition to his acclaimed exhibitions and the success of his sold-out book Abstract Mindedness, Chinnery has extended his passion for creativity into education. Together with Valda Bailey, he co-founded "Finding Your Voice," an online platform committed to helping photographers discover their individual artistic identity. Through in-depth tutorials, constructive critiques, and collaborative community engagement, Chinnery and Bailey have created a hub for aspiring and established photographers alike.
