Doug Chinnery will serve as the juror for the exhibition on "Expressionism."
Doug Chinnery describes his artistic journey as one that transcends traditional boundaries. “I long ago stopped thinking of myself as a photographer,” he reflects, “and more as an abstract artist, using the camera as my principal medium.” Chinnery’s work embodies the spirit of experimentation, as he explores the delicate intersection between photography and mixed media abstract expressionism. Inspired by iconic painters such as Howard Hodgkin, Paul Feiler, Fiona Rae, and Robert Ryman, his work strives for what he calls "visual poetry," aiming to evoke emotional resonance over mere replication. This process, he admits, is fraught with challenges: “I fail more often than I succeed,” he humbly acknowledges.
With an extensive exhibition history and a sold-out book titled Abstract Mindedness, Chinnery's contributions to the field are well-recognized. Beyond his personal practice, he and fellow artist Valda Bailey co-founded "Finding Your Voice," a highly regarded online photography education platform. The initiative is dedicated to guiding photographers toward uncovering their distinctive artistic style through a blend of tutorials, critiques, and vibrant community engagement.
