About:

The La Frontera City Council, through its Department of Tourism, is announcing the "StarsTrek La Frontera 2025" Night Photography Contest. This initiative seeks to showcase the municipality's exceptional skies—recognized as a Starlight Tourist Destination—and promote astronomical observation as part of its natural, cultural, and tourist heritage.

The competition will have two categories: an online competition, called "El cielo de La Frontera," which will run from October 1 to 30, and an in-person photography tour, "StarsTrek," which will take place on November 21 and 22 at iconic locations in the municipality such as Arenas Blancas, Arco de La Tosca, El Verodal, or El Sabinar, depending on weather conditions.

Mayor Pablo Rodríguez Cejas highlighted the importance of initiatives like this one in consolidating the municipality's identity as a benchmark in astrotourism: "Our sky is one of our greatest assets. With this competition, we want to invite residents and visitors to see it through different eyes, discover its beauty, and help us preserve it. La Frontera has firmly committed to sustainability and the protection of its sky, and this competition is a way to celebrate that."

Registration opened this Monday, October 6th. Professional and amateur photographers over the age of 16 are eligible to participate. Each category offers a different entry method. The online contest "El cielo de La Frontera" (The Sky of La Frontera) offers free registration and photo submissions until October 30th, and can also be done through the municipal website. Registration for the in-person contest closes on October 27th and can be completed through the TrackingSport website for €10.

Tourism Councilor Adelaida González emphasized the educational and artistic value of the competition: "Through night photography, we foster creativity and raise awareness about a resource as unique as our starry sky." The councilor also invited photographers to join this initiative.
