About:

The project aims to open a dialogue about how the concepts of feminism and family intersect and redefine each other across cultures, and generations. Participants will explore how family structures can both support and conflict with feminist ideals, asking whether family itself can be a source of feminist empowerment. The residency will bring together selected artists for a three-week collaborative program in one of three locations Budapest, Chennai or Sofia.

The residency will take place from 19 January to 7 February 2026, offering participants space, mentorship, and production support to develop new photographic work that later will be presented in a collective exhibition in Sofia in June 2026.

The concept of a small festival was developed in co-operation with twelve Southeast Asian and Southeast Asian German diaspora artists through a workshop in Germany in 2024.  The mini festival will showcase the results and processes of the three residences as well as present another five existing artistic contributions relating to the theme of Diaspora and “Dealing in Distance” through this open call.
