About:

Discovering and publicizing outstanding projects in the field of communication of and with photography is the aim of the DGPh Education Prize, which will be awarded by the German Society for Photography (DGPh) for the eleventh time in 2024.   Innovative and sustainable projects that use photography as a language and thus have an impact on society are in demand. These include cultural and museum education initiatives in which photography is addressed or used, as well as media education offerings on photography, as well as school and extracurricular activities and innovative projects at universities.

The range of possible submissions is broad: whether new communication concepts in schools, photography projects and workshops on selected current topics, innovative formats to make photography tangible or the creation of a network for young photographers - the award-winning works from previous years clearly demonstrate the openness to very different approaches!

You can find a look at the award winners of the last few years on the DGPh website. The education award is intended to further increase public awareness of photographic educational work and to focus on the medium of photography as a cultural asset. The award is endowed with 1,000 euros. Other outstanding contributions can be recognized with an honorable mention.

In addition to the board of the Education Section, the jury also includes other experts in photography education, including the previous year's prizewinner. The award ceremony takes place in a celebratory setting, this year probably in October in Hamburg.

A detailed project description is required for the application. Photographs and any press publications can also be included. Submissions can only  be made online via the DGPh online portal .

The following must be submitted:  up to 15 photographs, a description of the project implemented, information about the submitting person, details of publications, if available.
