With the Leo Breuer Prize, the LVR honors artists who particularly deal with the representation of the concrete and constructive. What is characteristic are geometrically precise color areas without a painterly style, which are usually composed and proportioned on mathematical principles.

The winners are selected in an open application process and in cooperation with the Society for Art and Design in Bonn. The prize is announced every two years. Artists can submit their artistic career and work in the form of documents, portfolios, exhibition lists and catalogs.

The namesake Leo Breuer was a pioneer of abstract art

Leo Breuer developed abstract geometric art, moving away from the concrete, objective style. Finally, in the late 1960s and 1970s, he further developed visual art through kinetic Op Art. This means the theory of movement - the term kinetic art therefore stands for a moving or moving art.
