About:
Girls in Film and Tate Collective have partnered to hold an Open Call for film and photography work in response to Lee Miller’s documentation of community and the wider world, currently exhibiting at Tate Britain. Selected works will be shown at the Late at Tate Britain on 13th February.
Miller had an extraordinary and varied career starting as a model, before jumping behind the lens as a surrealist fashion photographer, exchanging techniques with legendary Man Ray. The outbreak of WW2 took her to the frontlines as a correspondent for British Vogue, while male photographers were drawn up to fight. She left a huge imprint by following her calling and subverting expectations.
We are looking for photography or film submissions responding to themes of community identity, resistance, surrealism, and activism. You can submit existing works or create something new in response to the themes.
