About:

FOTODOK, Studio Camera and media archive Beeld & Geluid call on artists to create a work that reflects on the mechanisms of the genocide and the consequences for its victims and relatives. In this project, we believe it is important to look beyond what is in front of us. We challenge the selected artist to bring the voices and the stories of the Bosnian Dutch to the surface and make them visible from the Beeld & Geluid archive. This open call is part of the project The Eleven Voices of Srebrenica.

This open call, followed by a working period, offers one artist the opportunity to respond to the way in which the genocide was reported on then and now. What images are given to the genocide? Who has a voice and which voices are hidden? Beeld & Geluid will make its archive available for research and will give image makers the opportunity for reinterpretations and new perspectives on the genocide and its consequences. At the end of the working period, the artist will deliver a final work that will be exhibited by FOTODOK as part of the in-depth programme.
