About:

25 years ago, a group of passionate photographers came together to form the BUET Photographic Society. From its humble beginnings in the corridors of del café to becoming one of the most prominent student-led photographic institutions in Bangladesh, BUETPS has come a long way. At BUETPS, we believe in nurturing interest, sharing expertise, and developing the photographic eye to help each other become better photographers. Over the years, our photographers have left their marks far beyond the confines of our country, showcasing their immense hunger for the medium and the spirit of BUETPS. On this important milestone of its 25th anniversary, we chose to take a breather and reflect on the journey that started in 1997, to look back at the path traveled and the memories made.

Susan Sontag described photographs as a neat slice of time, more endearing than a steadily flowing rendering of moving images. In its purest form, every photo is a mechanical recreation of a moment in the vast ocean of time. Our perpetual desire to remember is what gives them meaning. Memories are a terrifying affair. Little fragments of our being filled with every thrill, joy, love, relief, sorrow, loss, fear, hatred, and tranquility existing in a fleeting breeze of intangible comprehensions that define the human condition. The act of reminiscing almost feels like taking a stand against the flow of time. Yet, it’s codified into our nature. Like little puppets of fate, we’re perpetually faltering between looking back and moving forward. How can we not remember when the past is so fascinating? Like speech, script, etching, and illustration before it, photography is one of our many protestations against the timestream. It’s a stand to commemorate our struggle to remember, one that’s worth celebrating.

This exhibition is a window into our past and a celebration of our memories. It’s our vision of REMEMBRANCE, and we can’t do it without you. Join us as we look back on 25 years of BUET Photographic Society.
