About:
This March, in honor of Women's History Month, we invite artists of all genders to delve into the boundless creative potential of darkroom photography. The heart of this call is darkroom experimentation. The darkroom process is inherently chemical and precisely balanced, but there's room to push the boundaries beyond standard development. We encourage submissions that explore new techniques, unconventional materials, and unique perspectives. From solarization to photograms, double exposure to chemical manipulation, the possibilities are endless. Darkroom experimentation is as much about embracing accidents and serendipity as it is about intentional design. The unpredictable nature of these processes means that sometimes, the most striking images come from the happy accidents that occur when something doesn't go as planned. As well as being able to replicate, build on and perfection those happy accidents. This openness to the unexpected is what makes darkroom experimentation so thrilling and rewarding. The call for Darkroom Experimentation is an invitation to step back from the predictability of traditional imagery and immerse oneself in the tactile, hands-on experience of creating photographs. It's an opportunity to connect with the history of photography while simultaneously pushing its boundaries into new, unexplored territories.
