We are thrilled to announce the launch of the prestigious WARS Photography Award, an initiative that recognizes the profound importance of visual storytelling in capturing the realities and impact of wars and conflicts. This award aims to support and honor the courageous photojournalists who risk their lives to shed light on these pressing issues and inform the public.
Call for Entries: Following the immense success of the 2019 and 2021 editions, we are excited to invite photojournalists from around the globe to participate in the latest call for submissions. The WARS Photography Award seeks to empower and provide a platform for photographers working in hostile environments, documenting the consequences of conflicts on communities worldwide.
What Winners Receive: We believe in acknowledging the exceptional talent and dedication of these photojournalists. The first-place winner will be awarded a cash prize of 2000€, while two runner-up winners will each receive 1000€. Additionally, the winning entries will be showcased in a captivating touring exhibition set to open in Mantova in September 2023.
About the Organization: The WARS Photography Award is organized by the esteemed association "46° Parallelo," which was founded in Trento in 2008 by a group of journalists and reporters committed to documenting conflict zones. Over the past fifteen years, the association has spearheaded numerous projects in schools, universities, and museums, encompassing engaging talks, thought-provoking lectures, captivating photography exhibitions, films, and documentaries. As the publisher of the annual publication "The Atlas of Wars and Conflict," created in collaboration with Amnesty International, UNHCR, and MSF, "46° Parallelo" continues to raise awareness of global conflicts. For more information, please visit atlanteguerre.it. The WARS Photography Award is a collaborative project with Montura, Fondazione Trento, and Intersos NGO. Leading the Prize as the Director is the award-winning photographer Fabio Bucciarelli, entrusted with evaluating the contestants' eligibility criteria and ensuring the neutrality of the esteemed jury.
How to Enter: This year, the WARS Photography Award invites submissions for the single category of photo-reportages. Each reportage should consist of 12 to 20 photographs, offering a comprehensive visual narrative on a subject directly related to wars and conflicts. The images must have been captured after February 1, 2022, and both published and unpublished stories are eligible for submission.
Judging Criteria: A distinguished panel of experienced judges will meticulously review all entries, assessing them based on their quality, creativity, and impact. The judging process will be conducted with utmost fairness and impartiality, and the decisions of the panel will be final.
We eagerly anticipate receiving your compelling entries, as we continue to honor the tireless efforts of photojournalists in documenting the stories that need to be heard. Together, let us celebrate the power of visual storytelling and the indomitable spirit of those who bring these narratives to life.
