The Arnold Newman Prize for New Directions in Photographic Portraiture is an esteemed award of $20,000 presented yearly to a photographer who showcases a captivating and innovative approach to portrait photography. A panel of judges will carefully review the submissions and select the Top Ten entries, from which the ultimate winner and three finalists will be chosen. As part of their recognition, the three finalists, along with the winner, will have the opportunity to showcase their work in an exhibition at the prestigious Griffin Museum of Photography. Additionally, each finalist will receive a $250 stipend in appreciation of their talent and contribution. The Arnold & Augusta Newman Foundation, with great generosity, provides the funding for this prize, while the esteemed Maine Media proudly oversees its administration.
On Saturday, September 30, 2023, the recipient of the 2023 Arnold Newman Prize for New Directions in Photographic Portraiture will be celebrated at the Visionary Awards dinner, set to take place in Rockport, Maine.
Each year, the Griffin Museum of Photography hosts an annual exhibition featuring the works of the winner and three finalists. This year, the exhibition will be on display at the Griffin Museum of Photography located in Winchester, MA, from October 19th to October 29th. A reception for the exhibit will be held on Saturday, October 21st, from 4 pm to 6 pm. Furthermore, the online exhibit will be accessible from October 19th to November 23rd, 2023.
