The Romano Cagnoni Award, an international photojournalism prize, was born in 2019 in memory⁠ of the late photographer Romano Cagnoni (1935-2018), one of the twentieth century’s most⁠ internationally recognized and award-winning photojournalists.⁠

The Award is promoted by the Fondazione Romano Cagnoni, in collaboration with Photolux -⁠

International Festival of Photography and with the support of LensCulture.⁠

The Romano Cagnoni Award is held every two years with the aim of supporting photographers⁠ who investigate, with depth and participation, topics related to the human condition, social and⁠ environmental change, humanitarian crises, and the violation of human rights in the world.⁠

The Theme of the RCA 2022 edition is Freedom!⁠

The selected projects will be submitted to an international jury.⁠

The winner will receive: a prize of € 5,000, a sculpture symbol of the RCA, an exhibition produced⁠ and shown during the Photolux Festival 2022 Edition, the publication of the work in the official⁠ catalog of the event. In addition, a work selected among those shortlisted will be published in⁠ Internazionale Magazine.⁠

The winner of the RCA 2022 edition will be announced by March 2022 and will be awarded during⁠ the Photolux Festival in Lucca, which will take place in the period 28 May – 19 June 2022.⁠
