How do photographers discover, survey, and restore a city's atmospheres and imagination? One of the challenges and pleasures of photography is discovering what Alfred Stieglitz, Robert Franck, Garry Winogrand, William Klein, or Nan Goldin saw of New York. With William Klein as your guide, explore Tokyo's streets or the Valparaiso of Sergio Larrain, the Paris of Brassa, Willy Ronis, or Martin Parr....

Since its founding in 1860, Deauville, whose identity is multifaceted and complex, has lent itself to the game of looks and discoveries throughout its brief history. In turn, the Seeberger Brothers, Jacques Henri Lartigue, Roger Schall, Willy Rizzo, Robert Capa, Emeric Feher, Gisèle Freund, Henri Cartier Bresson, the Magnum photographers, Robert Doisneau, and Peter Lindbergh, as well as the best fashion photographers, looked at it with interest and took pictures that inspired them.

Lise Sarfati, Charles Fréger, Massimo Vitalli, Filip Dujardin, Meffre & Marchand, Paolo Roversi, Sarah Moon, Kishin Shinoyama, Lars Turnbjork, Harry Gruyaert, Philippe Ramette, and others have been invited to appropriate a portion of the city, Deauville, through photographic commissions since Planche(s) Contact was established in 2010.

At the conclusion of each festival, their Deauville-inspired photographs are kept. They are part of the City's ever-expanding photographic collection. a singular photographic collection whose works support the Franciscan Sisters' exhibitions.

For several generations of photographers, a contact sheet, a mosaic of images, a narrative, and the beginnings of a photographic approach remain. Planche(s) Contact is increasingly establishing itself as a creative and festive gathering spot for Deauville, allowing the city's residents, visitors, and photographers to share their long-standing, passionate relationship with photography each autumn.
