Arte Laguna Prize open call for artists and designers is now open, this year with a special look at the new frontier of Contemporary Art, Crypto Art.
All certified NFT artworks will be able to join in the competition, namely those artistic practices that involve the digitalization of a physical work, or the creation of a digital artwork.
In the jury, as for every edition, important names of the current artistic scene that this year come from the African, European and American continents: Mohamed Benhadj, Curator for the territories of North Africa and Spain and Founder of AlTiba9; Raphael Chikukwa, Director of the National Gallery of Zimbabwe; Giulia Colletti, Digital Curator for Castello di Rivoli Museum of Contemporary Art in Turin; Paul di Felice, Curator, Critic and Art Historian based in Luxembourg; Chloé Hodge Project Manager at Tate Britain in London, Curator and Producer; Dick Spierenburg, Creative Director of IMM – Cologne International Furniture Fair; Xiaoyu Weng, Curator based in New York and Toronto, Head of Modern and Contemporary Art at AGO, the Art Gallery of Ontario.
The jury will select the 120 finalists who will compete for the 10,000€ prize and will have the opportunity to exhibit in the evocative 4,000 square meters of the Arsenale Nord in Venice.
To support the jury there will also be the Honorary Committee composed this year by the Art Critic and Curator Luca Beatrice who will write a critic essay on the finalists identified by the jury, Alberto Torsello winner of the Compasso d'Oro 2018 and Xing Dong Honorary of China Fujian Graphic Design Association (Fgda), Artistic Director of The Mansion Art Museum and Artistic Director of Xiamen Ximind Culture Center.
The first appointment to mark on the agenda for 2023 will therefore be the collective exhibition at the Arsenale Nord, to be held from 11 March to 16 April, which will kick off a series of events for all the following months. In fact, a personal exhibition will be realized at the Cris Contini Contemporary gallery in London, the art residences at BigCi in Australia, at Espronceda in Barcelona, at Farm Cultural Park in Favara (Agrigento), at Fabrica Benetton in Treviso and in Pietrasanta at the Fonderia Artistica Versiliese. In the autumn of 2023, an exhibition of video art works is scheduled in Beijing and the artistic residency will begin at the Roberto Cipresso winery in Siena, the winner of the residency will also be awarded a cash prize of 5000€.
Also, for this edition there will be the 3000€ Prize dedicated to Sustainability created with the collaboration of Contarina spa and of Ca' Foscari Sostenibile of the Cà Foscari University of Venice, this year the focus is on the artistic reuse of cork.
Of particular interest for artists Under 35 who will have the opportunity to participate in BJCEM – Mediterranea 20 – Young Artists Biennale in 2024 and will be the recipients of three special prizes of 1000€ each.
All participants in the competition have free visibility in the digital platform ArteLaguna.World to be able to sell their works.
Arte Laguna Prize arrives at its seventeenth edition already more than mature proving to be one of the richest in opportunities for artists among contemporary art competitions. Arte Laguna Prize continues to carry out its mission of promoting and discovering the new talents of the international contemporary art system and its network of collaborations now touches all parts of the world. This allows artists to create virtuous connections for their professional growth and at the same time allows partners (Museums, galleries, foundations, residences, art or industrial spaces, companies, historic houses etc ..) to access emerging or even established talents with which to start new projects that enhance their spaces, their product or bring creativity into new business strategies.
