Gomma Black and White Photo Award 2026 - Open Call

Building on two decades of identifying unconventional talent, Gomma Publishing Ltd has officially opened the call for entries for the 2026 Gomma Black & White Awards (GBWA). Now entering its third edition, the competition has quickly established itself as a premier global platform for photographers who view monochrome not just as a style, but as a narrative powerhouse. As the photography world increasingly leans toward AI-generated imagery and high-saturation digital trends, the Gomma Black & White Awards stand as a bastion for the “timeless allure” of the monochrome narrative.

The award is uniquely structured to favour depth over “viral” impact; unlike many single-image contests, the GBWA requires a cohesive body of work consisting of 8 to 24 images. The mission, according to founder Luca Desienna Doris, is to reward photographers who demonstrate “courage, vision, and a distinct approach” to their subject matter. You are invited to submit a minimum of 8 images from an unfinished, ongoing or completed project, in any medium including analogue, digital, Polaroid and Instagram, in any genre, such as portraiture, documentary, fine art, street, photojournalism, conceptual, landscape etc. as long as the image is Black & White.
