About:
We are thrilled to launch a call for research proposals as a part of our Homelands cycle, inviting artists, architects, researchers, filmmakers, scholars, and multidisciplinary practitioners to submit a research proposal that will be presented at Storefront during the Homelands symposium in early 2027. Submissions will also be considered for print publication in the Homelands Reader, co-published with Inventory Press.
Homelands focuses on the political dimensions of memory, through artistic practices that make and remake connections to place. At a moment when questions of territory, sovereignty, and belonging continue to intensify in and beyond the United States, Homelands offers a critical space for reflection. This research cycle also asks audiences to consider memory as both a tool for reclaiming space and a means of asserting or resisting power—shaping, if possible, the understanding of what it means to remember, and to be remembered.
We welcome submissions of in-progress work or project proposals. The Open Call is designed to support the selected project’s research and development. Diverse forms of practice, including video, performance-based work, installation, architectural ideas, writing, and other media are encouraged, as well as collaborations across different professional fields and practices.
